As a skier, Jackson, Wyoming, with its beautiful Teton Mountain range, has always been on my want-to-go list. I recently got to check it off after a trip with Ski.com, one of my favorite partners for planning mountain vacations. I had a great time on the slopes and touring the town and ski village, especially getting to know the lodging options to help me make recommendations for my clients.
There are two central areas to stay in Jackson: TETON VILLAGE, which is the base area of the ski resort, and the TOWN OF JACKSON.
The Town offers only locally owned, independent shops for walking and window shopping, plus some well-known cowboy-style bars with regular live music, while the Village provides luxury hotels and homes plus plenty of après-ski entertainment and activities. Both locations have several excellent restaurants and with frequent bus service between the two (it takes about 30 minutes each way), you can get the best of both no matter where you stay. I’ve broken down the best places to in Jackson Hole in each area below.
Four Seasons Jackson Hole Resort is a favorite choice for luxury-minded skiers. Located right at the gondola base, it’s the most convenient hotel to the slopes, with true ski-in, ski-out access and a full service ski concierge. There are several residential-style rooms and suites for families, plus one of the most beautiful pool areas I’ve seen! As a Preferred Partner agency, my clients receive exclusive amenities like daily breakfast for two, $100 resort credit, complimentary wifi, and/or a possible room upgrade.
Snake River Lodge and Spa is also located at the ski base and offers full service ski butler service. Ski right in, hand off your equipment, get a helping hand removing your boots, and off you go for some après ski! Then, pick everything up the next morning fresh off the boot warmers. Bliss! The hotel is very welcoming for families and puts out complimentary snacks and drinks for guests in the mornings and afternoons.
Hotel Terra and Teton Mountain Lodge are two adjacent properties just a short walk to the lifts but with ski-in access. They are managed by the same company, sharing many amenities and top-notch service, with welcoming lobby areas offering offering morning and après-ski food and beverage service, plus spas and gourmet restaurants. Teton Mountain Lodge has a more traditional western-style atmosphere with open log beam ceilings and a huge stone fireplace in the lobby. Hotel Terra is a more modern design-style, boutique hotel. My favorite rooms here are Hotel Terra’s 2-bedroom, spacious, vaulted-ceiling suites — perfect for families or small groups.
If you want your home away from home in the Village, my partners at The Jackson Hole Ski Resort company manage condos and private homes for rent. I got to see a few during my stay and can help you find one that fits your needs.
TOWN OF JACKSON
Wort Hotel, an historic Old West icon, is the nostalgic choice for luxurious lodging. The hotel features fabulous specialty suites, but one of the most notable features is the Silver Dollar Saloon. It’s well-known for the bar counter embedded with hundreds of silver dollar coins and regular live music performances.
Another in-town option is the residential-feeling White Buffalo Club. It has a variety of room setup options that connect to make full apartments designed for entertaining. It’s a good choice for adults or families with older teens, especially for sharing the rooms with two King beds (you don’t see that very often!). There is local-membership fitness club (for guest use as well) and a popular steak restaurant in the lower level.
I was pleased to meet the owners, architect and general manager on a hard hat tour of the exciting Hotel Jackson, which is now open. The owner and his two sons built this boutique luxury hotel to bring modern design and a hip hangout as a gift to their beloved Jackson. The 58 rooms were carefully designed with top-quality locally and internationally sourced materials. And for the convenience and comfort of its guests, the hotel has a reception area at the ski base.
OUTSIDE OF TOWN
Just ten minutes outside the town is one of the worlds’ top hotels: the stunning Amangani. With its truly awe-inspiring views of the valley and mountains beyond and top-notch service, guests have been known to stay for days without leaving. This hotel is a destination unto itself, but it also makes a fabulous home base for exploring the area and enjoying the many outdoor pursuits available year-round.
